Our Lady of Light Schoolhouse is committed to forming remarkable, innovative, and Christ-like Americans who will be a source of joy in all that they do and for all those their lives touch. Rooted in both classical principles and Montessori-informed practice, our program provides a highly individualized, mastery-based education within a structured, teacher-led environment.
Our enrollment is limited to fewer than ten students to provide a deeply personalized environment where each child is known, guided, and taught at their exact level. Mrs. Smith provides one-on-one and small group instruction to meet each child exactly where he or she is in each subject area. Students benefit from not only rigorous academics, but social-emotional and spiritual education through weekly Bible stories, verses, songs and activities. This Christian lens is what ties all of our knowledge together and puts purpose to our efforts.
Our program is intentionally designed as a four-day academic week (Monday–Thursday).
This structure allows for focused, high-quality instruction while maintaining a thoughtful and balanced weekly rhythm for students and families. Each academic day is purposefully planned to maximize learning through individualized instruction, multi-sensory experiences, and meaningful engagement with core subjects.
Fridays are intentionally left open to provide families with a consistent day for enrichment, appointments, and time together — while students continue to build a strong and complete academic foundation during the school week.
Our curriculum follows the classical educational model of the trivium—the three-part path of learning that transports students from foundational knowledge in early elementary school to eloquent creation and expression in high school. In elementary school, students begin in what is called the Grammar Stage, where they absorb knowledge through memorization, imitation, and structured learning. In middle school, students enter the Logic Stage, where they begin asking questions, making connections, and learning to reason. This builds on the basic foundation they have cemented in elementary school. In the final Rhetoric Stage, in high school, students are able to draw conclusions, make convictions and support them eloquently through written and spoken language. This is when teenagers are called to become creators and express themselves based on their foundational competence in world history, literature, science, math and logic. Each stage, in its order, is important in creating a successful, independent and constructive member of our society.
The cohort created in our founding year will progress through the grades together with Mrs. Smith as its constant guide. This educational practice is called looping—where the same teacher remains with students over multiple years. Research shows looping supports deep social-emotional growth, fosters a strong academic community, and ensures a warm and trusting learning environment.
Instruction at Our Lady of Light Schoolhouse is both structured and responsive.
Mrs. Smith is a certified teacher in both Connecticut and New Hampshire, holds both an Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from The University of Connecticut and brings over a decade of teaching experience across grade levels. She utilizes a combination of direct, teacher-led instruction and Montessori-informed, multi-sensory learning experiences to support each student’s development.
Lessons are thoughtfully designed to be engaging, purposeful, and aligned to each child’s individual learning goals. This approach fosters independence, confidence, and a deep understanding of academic concepts.
Our program is designed as a collaborative partnership with families who value a strong academic foundation, a faith-centered environment, and a consistent approach to learning.
Our Lady of Light Schoolhouse is committed to forming students who are intellectually prepared, morally grounded, and rooted in their faith.
Through a highly personalized and thoughtfully designed educational experience, we seek to cultivate a love of learning, strength of character, and a joyful pursuit of truth — preparing students to grow into confident, capable, and Christ-like individuals.
