Our Lady of Light Schoolhouse is thoughtfully designed with two distinct classroom spaces: the White Room and the Green Room. Each serves a specific purpose within the daily rhythm of the program.
The White Room serves as the primary academic workspace, supporting both direct instruction and purposeful independent learning.
Students receive individualized, teacher-led instruction at the central table, where lessons in reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics are delivered one-on-one and in small groups based on each student’s level of mastery.
When not engaged in direct instruction, students participate in purposeful independent work using carefully prepared, Montessori-informed materials. These materials are intentionally selected and rotated based on each student’s developmental level and current learning goals.
Designed to be self-correcting and engaging, these materials support the development of independence, concentration, and a deep understanding of academic concepts.
Learning areas within the White Room include:
This environment allows students to move between guided instruction and independent application, reinforcing learning in a meaningful and individualized way.
The Green Room serves as a structured, communal learning space.
This classroom is used for shared experiences throughout the day, including lunch, group instruction, and integrated enrichment lessons. Students come together in this space for content areas such as religion, science, and history, which are taught through a combination of discussion, hands-on activities, art, music, movement, and practical application.
The Green Room supports collaboration, communication, and a sense of community, while complementing the individualized work that takes place in the White Room.
