Welcome to Our Lady of Light Schoolhouse!

We have two classrooms: the White Room and the Green Room. 

The White Room offers a versatile space for both individualized/small group instruction, as well as a student led Montessori style of learning. You will notice many shelves in the White Room with customized trays or "works" on each shelf. These works are self-correcting, specifically designed to meet students at their developmental level, to inspire curiosity and independence, and teach through exploration and play. When students are not learning phonics, writing, grammar, math or reading 1 on 1 or in a small group with Mrs. Smith at the large U-shaped table, they will be able to choose a special "work" from the shelves to complete. 

The shelves include:

-Practical life skill trays (ex. metal polishing, flower arranging, grating)

-Sensorial skill trays (ex. geometric shape creation, pattern problems, musical instrument patterns)

-Reading/phonics and writing skill trays (ex. spelling out items' names using a moveable alphabet, writing in sand, reading level-appropriate books)

-Math skill trays (ex. addition and subtraction games with manipulatives, matching a number of objects to written numbers, white board number tracing)

-Science trays that match our current units (ex. sorting pictures of living vs. non-living things into two categories, matching parts of a fish with the corresponding vocabulary word)

-Religion trays (ex. matching the pictures of each created thing in the Genesis creation story with the number of the day it was made on, rosary puzzle, Mass items to play/pray with)

-Art trays (ex. make your own portrait out of moveable loose items, paint your family). 

The Green Room is a more traditional classroom space with two large whiteboards and individualized student desks. This space will be utilized throughout the day but especially used for lunch and whole group time (Science, Religion, or History class that incorporates art, music, movement, and practical skills in every class) at the end of the day.
